In accordance with BC’s Securities Act (RSBC 1996, c. 418), the BCSC is issuing a warning about GoldTradeCoins.
GoldTradeCoins claims to be an online cryptocurrency trading platform and we are aware that GoldTradeCoins accepts British Columbia (BC) residents as clients.
A cryptocurrency trading platform may be required to be recognized as an exchange under section 25 of the Securities Act, RSBC 1996, c. 418 (the Act), or be registered as a dealer under section 34 of the Act. GoldTradeCoins has not been recognized as an exchange or registered as a dealer in BC.
We urge BC residents to exercise caution when dealing with cryptocurrency trading platforms that have not been recognized or registered in BC.

How to protect yourself
You’ll have a better chance of receiving compensation if you deal with an authorized or registered financial firm. Check the Financial Services (FS) Register to ensure they are authorised or registered by FCA—it has information on firms and individuals that are, or have been regulated by this authority.
If you invested money with a reputable company, your access to the Financial Ombudsman Service and FSCS protection will depend on what kind of investment you made, what type of service was provided in connection with it (and whether this required prior authorization from regulators), and if the firm had been granted permission by financial authorities.
